Central America is always a great place to visit, but there is one country in particular you should have on your list.

The country blends a captivating mix of tropical jungles, untouched beaches, friendly people, and a fascinating culture that has attracted travelers around the world for many years.

Here are six reasons Costa Rica should be on your travel itinerary for the coming months:

Trending And Booming

Costa Rica has always been a popular destination for Americans, but the country is really having a moment right now as travelers rediscover their mojos.

The country’s tourism board recently predicted that the country should hit upwards of 2.3 million air tourists this year, which will be an all-time record.

It’s easy to see why, as the country is blessed with some unique nature, stunning beaches, and amazing resorts.

All that is probably a reason why Costa Rica was also recently named as one of the world’s fastest-growing countries for tourism.

Perfect For Digital Nomads

Back in 2022, Costa Rica introduced its first-ever digital nomad visa, and it hasn’t looked back since.

The capital city, San José, has always been a popular place for digital nomads to base themselves to sample its unique culture, great nightlife, and thriving food scene.

Outside of San José, other popular (and more affordable) locations for digital nomads in Costa Rica include Liberia up in the northwest of the country, pristine beach towns Puerto Viejo on the east coast and Santa Teresa in the west, and well-known surfing location Tamarindo in the Guanacaste province.

Heaven For Nature Lovers

You will struggle to find many other countries in the Americas with such thriving ecosystems and such fantastic wildlife spotting opportunities as Costa Rica.

The country is home to no fewer than 29 national parks, 19 wildlife refuges, and eight biological reserves that encompass environments such as sandy beaches, tropical rainforests, and volcanic mountain ranges.

Costa Rica is home to many rare and exotic animals, including mammals such as sloths and spider monkeys, birds such as toucans and resplendent quetzals, and amphibians like the red-eyed tree frog.

A Year-Round Destination

The best time to visit Costa Rica is widely regarded as being between December and April when the weather is mostly dry and the days are the longest, making it a great winter sun destination.

However, it’s also worth taking a trip to this Central American gem at other times of year too, as you will benefit from it being much quieter and a little more affordable too.

Between May and November is when Costa Rica has its rainy season, but often the showers will tend to be mostly in the afternoons, with mornings remaining bright and sunny.

It’s Getting Easier To Get There

As the popularity of Costa Rica increases, so do the options available to help you fly there.

A prime example of that is the fact that SouthWest Airlines is launching a new flight to San José in Costa Rica from Orlando, Florida starting in June 2024, according to reports.

As well as that, the same airline is increasing the number of flights it offers to San José from both Baltimore and Denver for the period between June 4 and August 4 next year.

The competition between airlines offering more and more flights is only a good thing for travelers, as it gives us more choice and potentially more affordable options.

Great Celebrations To Be Had

There are several annual celebrations in Costa Rica that can give you an unforgettable experience if your time your visit to coincide with them.

One of the most well-known is Fiesta Palmares, a two-week festival of music, dancing, and drinking that occurs in January each year.

A month later, the Puntarenas Carnival carries on the party vibe and includes events as wide-ranging as beauty pageants and concerts.

Costa Rica’s Independence Day is celebrated on September 15 and usually encompasses dazzling parades with many people carrying homemade lanterns.

Christmas and New Year are also major celebrations worth seeing in Costa Rica.
