This summer 2022 Iberia includes new itineraries for Dallas, Washington, and San Francisco
The Spanish airline Iberia recently updated its route network and announced new flights to the US and the reactivation of other seasonal routes.
For the first time, the carrier will connect Madrid to Dallas Fort Worth, and also add a route to Washington Dulles, starting on June 1. During this summer, Iberia will also reactivate its service to San Francisco. The Airbus A330, Iberia’s main aircraft for long-haul routes, will operate on these routes.
Iberia will be the first foreign carrier to serve Washington Dulles since the beginning of the pandemic. Carl Schultz, vice president of airline business development for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority declared feeling optimistic about this connection: “Iberia is an iconic international brand that will serve to further diversify Dulles International Airport’s legacy of offering unparalleled connectivity from the National Capital Region to Europe and beyond.”
Soon, more vaccinated US citizens can take advantage of these new flights to explore Spain and also visit other European countries that don’t require Covid tests at the moment.
In total, this summer Iberia will be serving eight destinations in the United States: New York, Miami, Chicago O’Hare, Boston, Los Angeles, Dallas, Washington, and San Francisco.
The airline also confirmed that it will increase the frequency of its flights from Miami and New York to Madrid, to 14 per week. Boston and Chicago will have daily flights. The company is keeping up to its promise to bet on the American market, Guillermo González Vallina, Iberia’s sales manager declared in December: “It will be one of our star markets in 2022”.
The New Itineraries for 2022
The new routes come as part of the airline strategy to respond to its customers’ needs and recover from the pandemic crisis.
Washington
Starting on June 1, the airline will provide service to Washington 4 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday) until October 29.
- From Madrid to Washington Dulles: Departs at 12:10 pm, arrives at 3:15 pm.
- From Washington Dulles to Madrid: Departs at 4:45 p.m., arrives at 6:30 a.m. the next day.
Dallas
Also from June 1 until October 29, Iberia offers four flights a week, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
- From Madrid to Dallas (DFW): departs at 3:50 p.m., arrives at 7:50 p.m.
- From Dallas (DFW) to Madrid: departs at 9:25 p.m., arrives at 2:20 p.m the next day.
San Francisco
This service was suspended for two years as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Iberia is offering it again. The airline will serve three flights per week, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
- From Madrid to San Francisco: departs at 12:20 pm, arrives at 4:15 p.m.
- From San Francisco to Madrid: Departs at 5:50 p.m., arrives at 2:10 p.m.the next day.
According to data shared by Aviacionline, in 2019 this moved over 36,000 passengers in 155 flights. In total, by June Iberia will be serving 120 weekly flights to connect Spain to the United States.
Iberia’s Strategies to Compete in the Market
Besides betting on the American market, Iberia has also implemented different plans of action to increase ticket sales and position the company. Recently, they redesigned their catering experience and reinstated their inflight shopping service.
Another strategy the carrier has implemented to improve their service consists in maintaining strong alliances with other airlines. Iberia is partnered with Aer Lingus, British Airways, American Airlines, Level, Finnair, Bulgaria Air, and more.
This means that passengers can easily combine their Iberia flights to connect to more destinations in the United States and Europe, and they have taken into consideration these partnerships to schedule their new flights to Texas, Washington, and San Francisco.
