Washington State, also known as the evergreen state, is a gorgeous state in the Pacific Northwest. While Washington might be most associated with summer activities such as hiking or winter ski trips, it’s also full of countless things to do in the fall. Here are seven off the beaten path things to check out!
1. The Leavenworth Autumn Festivals
If you haven’t heard of Leavenworth, Washington, you’re missing out! This charming German-themed town is nestled in the mountains, and hosts several festivals throughout the year. It’s fall festivities include the Autumn Leaf Festival and Oktoberfest, both of which are great ways to enjoy the cooler weather and changing leaves (and in the case of Oktoberfest, a drink or two). The Autumn Leaf Festival is set for September 24th and 25th this year, and will feature a car show, a parade, and live music. Oktoberfest, meanwhile, runs for three weekends from the beginning to end of October. The festival features live entertainment including Bavarian dancing groups, as well as plenty of opportunities to enjoy a drink.
2. Wine Tasting In Walla Walla
Located in Eastern Washington, Walla Walla is a smaller city with an artsy feel and no shortage of wineries. If you’re looking for a relaxing, sophisticated feeling way to spend an afternoon this fall, consider going to a wine tasting. Wineries such as Figgins and Armstrong Family Winery offer regular tastings.
3. Stocker Farms
Here’s some family-friendly fun with an optional spooky twist. Stocker Farms offers guests a variety of seasonal activities, including a pumpkin patch. If you’re going closer to Halloween, Stocker Farms also turns into Stalker farms after dark, which includes a haunted house and some other spooky festivities.
4. The Seattle Underground
Here’s another great option for those looking for something spooky to do as we draw closer to Halloween. The current city of Seattle was built on top of the original city, and many of the old buildings still stand underneath the modern streets. 5. Gold Creek Pond
If you’re looking for a relaxing outdoor excursion or a beautiful photography spot, check out Gold Creek Pond in Snoqualmie pass. The glistening pond is surrounded by a nature trail, which offers views of gorgeous fall leaf displays in autumn. The parking lot is at the end of a dirt road, and while it’s accessible by any vehicle, you’ll likely want to include some extra time.
6. Elktoberfest
Here’s another fun and memorable fall festival to attend in Washington State! If you’re looking for something to do near Vancouver, Washington, consider attending Elktober Fest at the Vancouver Elks Lodge. The festival runs from September 16th-17th and features local craft beer, live music, and german inspired food. Tickets for the event are available online.
7. Whidbey Island Scenic Byway
If you’re looking for a fun day trip to get you in the mood for fall, consider spending a day driving and exploring the Whidbey Island Scenic Byway. This route includes a short ferry ride. once on the island, you’ll want to check out Oak Harbor, a charming island town, as well as Deception Pass State Park, which also offers some beautiful fall leaves (though also a good amount of the always green pine tree).
