Myanmar Airways International (MAI), Myanmar’s largest carrier, is continuing its network expansion as the airline added three regional destinations with Hanoi (HAN), Ho Chi Minh (SGN) and Phuket (HKT) during Oct 2022 and the recently launched Phnom Penh (PNH), effective 23 November 2022. The network expansion aims at a total of 44 additional weekly flights from Yangon (RGN) and Mandalay (MDL) to various Thailand & CLMV markets compared to its pre-pandemic network.
These flights have been added to the airline’s network in a phased manner since April 2022, starting with the increase of Yangon (RGN) – Bangkok (BKK) frequencies from two to four daily flights, making it a total of twenty-eight weekly frequencies. Furthermore, in June 2022, MAI continued its growth with the launch of the daily Mandalay (MDL) – Bangkok (BKK) flight before the commencement of flights to its Indochina destinations and second destination in Thailand.
Besides network expansion, MAI embarked on its Sky Deals partnership program to offer exceptional value add-ons to its passengers, focusing on the services industry. So far, Sky Deals has more than 70 partners across the region, including Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam & South Korea. As a result, MAI passengers stand to enjoy up to 40% discounts at hotels, food & beverage outlets, fashion & lifestyle and hospitals.
Aside from providing direct connections from Myanmar to its neighboring markets, MAI continues to work with relevant stakeholders in building inbound traffic to the country as the travel & tourism sector plays a vital role in its economy. Moreover, MAI intends to rejuvenate the travel sector since Myanmar was a rising star in the travel scene with its unique destinations for those who wanted to take a trip to an exotic and exclusive place considering the heritage, remarkable Buddhism history and friendly people.
