American travelers are ready to explore Europe this summer, and so are Europeans!
And there’s so much to see and do and so many fascinating cities to visit that usually a traveler’s vacation time is never enough to see it all.
The continent is so vast and interesting that European travelers are also eager to get to visit the best destinations this summer.
According to a new report shared by the online travel agency Trip.com, the European market recording has significantly increased —72% more bookings have been registered through the platform in 2023 compared to the same period in the previous year.
But where are Europeans traveling this summer? Here’s a list of the top 7 destinations for local travelers:
7) Manchester
One of the top cities is Manchester. During summer travelers can explore the top attractions like the Northern Quarter with its bohemian bars and restaurants and enjoy great festivals and events.
Manchester also offers great museums, spectacular parks, and, of course, stadiums and football museums.
6) Rome
Italy is never boring and tasting a delicious Roman-style pizza with a crispy crust and tasty mozzarella is just one of the thousands of attractions.
Besides visiting the traditional landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Pantheon, Trevi Mountain, or Vatican City, Italy’s capital offers great off-path activities like Archeorunning.
5) Milan
Of course, those looking for glamorous experiences must visit Milan, Italy’s —and the World’s— fashion capital.
Here travelers can visit the most fascinating boutiques and luxury brands, as well as great museums, taste traditional food —like the famous risotto alla Milanese— and visit other impressive buildings.
4) Paris
Despite recent events, Paris remains on top of European travelers’ minds.
This city is home to the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, and what travelers consider one of the best tourist attractions in the world: Disneyland Paris.
During summer, Paris has a festive atmosphere, especially with great summer festivals like the Fête de la Musique (Music Day) in June.
It’s also a great opportunity to experience the best rooftop bars and restaurants.
3) Madrid
The beautiful Madrid offers travelers wonderful nightlife. Great terraces open until very late at night, and there seem to be infinite bars and restaurants.
Summer is a great time to have a nice afternoon at the famous park El Retiro, enjoy the weather under its shady trees and also explore the fascinating museums like El Prado or the brand new Museum of Royal Collections in Madrid opening its doors in June.
In neighborhoods like La Latina, travelers can taste the best tapas and drink wine and beer at different bars while walking around the city.
2) Barcelona
This city gathers visitors from all over the world because it has it all: the great beaches, the delicious food, the amazing buildings —ancient and modern—, the fascinating museums, and the vibrant nightlife.
Travelers can’t get enough of Barcelona, and even though touristy places like La Barceloneta can get extra crowded, there are other areas where travelers can enjoy a peaceful experience.
And there’s so much to do! From exploring the Gothic Quarter to visiting the Ciutadella Park or the Horta Labyrinth Park, to playing volleyball in Bogatell Beach to visiting Joan Miro’s museum.
1) London
And the first place goes to London!
European travelers love this city, especially during summer.
Besides visiting the historic landmarks or enjoying a sunny day in Hyde Park, visitors also opt for special experiences for this time of the year like taking a boat ride along the River Thames or attending one of the multiple events and festivals.
London’s unpredictable weather can make a traveler’s vacation experience exciting. But during this time of the year, the weather is usually very pleasant and ideal to explore the city.
Trip.com’s report shows that Europeans are booking their vacations at some of the most popular cities in the continent as well as coastal destinations. Other destinations featured in the list were Athens and Palma de Mallorca.
