Indonesian sailing experts SeaTrek Sailing Adventures have two new nine-day, exclusive family-friendly cruises starting and ending on the exotic islands of the Komodo National Park in July and August 2024.
Departing from 30 July – 7 August and from 10 – 18 August 2024 these two expert-led safaris on land and sea, travel aboard SeaTrek’s UNESCO-heritage, traditional Indonesian wooden pinisi sailing ship, Ombak Putih, in the same style as used by the famous Indonesian pirates, the “Boogey Men” (Bugis men) of southern Sulawesi who still to this day build and maintain SeaTrek’s ships.
Following the new Whale Sharks, Corals & Dragons cruise on an island hopping adventure along Indonesia’s Ring of Fire, these two voyages have been specifically designed with kids, teenagers and adults in mind and will be led by two highly knowledgeable UK-based conservationists and naturalists, Ray and Angela Hale.
Families can expect to learn about the importance of wildlife and habitat conservation, animal camouflage and how the famous Komodo Dragons evolved to live in the barren and ancient islands of the Ring of Fire. There will be plenty of opportunities to get up close to wildlife from rare encounters with the Komodo Dragons to hunting for bats, butterflies, and bugs on a gentle trek through Komodo National Park.
There is also the chance to swim with whale sharks, manta rays and sea turtles and see a kaleidoscope of colourful coral reefs, surrounded by hundreds of fish and coral species below the waves. Or paddleboard, kayak and explore on glorious white sand beaches. As an added bonus after dark, families have the opportunity to explore the southern hemisphere’s night sky, spotting Orion, Scorpio, and the South Cross, as well as learn some celestial navigation tips.
