If you’re making 2024 travel plans then you won’t have to go far to visit one of the world’s best destinations of the year.
CNN created a list of their best places to visit for 2024 and the beautiful lakes and breathtaking scenery of North Michigan was the only U.S. destination to be included.
Michigan might not be an obvious choice, but it is a state that has so much more to offer tourists than you might expect.
Here’s why this U.S. State was just named one of the best destinations to visit in 2024:
The Beauty Of The Lakes
One of the most famous of Michigan’s attractions is Lake Michigan which attracts huge numbers of tourists every year.
If you want to swim in the freshwater lake or take to the water for fishing, boating, or other water sports, then the destination is best visited during the summer months.
But Michigan and its beautiful lakes are a fantastic year-round destination.
There are more than 3,200 miles of Great Lakes shoreline to explore and beautiful forests that are a mecca for hikers, bikers, and outdoor adventurers.
Michigan has more than 11,000 inland lakes making it an incredible spot for anyone who feels happiest when they’re surrounded by water. And the awe-inspiring landscapes offered in Michigan’s untamed wilderness are truly breathtaking.
There are more than 116 lighthouses in Michigan which means it has more than any other state and only adds to the picturesque nature of the scenery here.
Urban Beauty
Away from the incredible natural beauty of Michigan’s lakes, forests, and national parks visitors can enjoy the urban beauty of Michigan’s cities.
Detroit, Lansing, and Grand Rapids are the biggest and most fascinating cities in the state, and each has its own unique personality.
It is in these cities that you will learn more about the fascinating history and inspiring culture gems of Michigan.
Detroit is a great spot for motor enthusiasts who want to learn more about the famed auto industry that once thrived here, and the Detroit Industry Murals painted by Diego Rivera are well worth exploring.
In Grand Rapids visitors can explore fascinating museums and with more than 40 breweries the city has a growing reputation for its beer culture. Grand Rapids was also listed as 2nd on the 10 Most Beautiful and Affordable Places to Live in the U.S.
A Remote Wilderness
If you want to visit somewhere you could hike for hours without seeing another person then the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is a great place to start.
The Upper Peninsula spans more than 16,000 square miles and only has a population of roughly 300,000 people.
This makes it much easier than you might think to enjoy some alone time, though there are plenty of picturesque small towns with friendly locals if you’d prefer some company.
Visit some of the Upper Peninsula’s state parks, such as Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park which is the largest park in Michigan to enjoy incredible views and contemplate how small you are in the grand scheme of things.
Endless Activities
Michigan is a wonderland for outdoor explorers.
We’ve already mentioned the popularity of the state for hikers and cyclists, and its many lakes mean that watersports enthusiasts such as kayakers and deep water fishers flock to Michigan too.
But these aren’t the only activities that flourish in the state.
Enjoy playing golf to relax and unwind? Then there’s no better place in the U.S. to visit than Michigan. The state has more public golf courses than any other in the nation. There are over 800 public golf courses in Michigan.
During the winter months, the Upper Peninsula of the state is considered the best place in the U.S. for snowmobiling.
You can enjoy thousands of miles of groomed snowmobile trails to explore, and if you don’t have your own craft, then don’t worry: rentals are widely available.
