Perhaps the best comparison geographically is Los Cabos, where tourists pick between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.
Tucked away in the state of Guerrero, this scenic beach destination has become trendier over the past year, but nowhere near the likes of the Mexican Caribbean and other household names.
That doesn’t mean it’s unworthy of your next beach escape, however. In fact, it rivals top vacation spots in many categories.

Mega popular destinations can cost an arm and a leg to stay at the best resorts, but that’s not the case here in Ixtapa.
Lined along beautiful beaches are plentiful resort options, and some with familiar names. Ixtapa isn’t a mainstream destination, but many Mexican nationals love visiting to get their salty air and sandy beach fix.

Although, it looks as if Ixtapa has taken a page out of America’s book with inflation. While still a steal of a deal compared to Los Cabos, for example, resorts this winter are typically anywhere from $175 – $250 per night.

There’s nothing wrong with never leaving your resort, but paying a visit to Isla Ixtapa is too good to pass up.

This small dreamy island is home to three beaches with turquoise waters- Playa Coral, Playa Cuachalalate, and Playa Varadero, with Playa Coral being the best for snorkeling as the name suggests.
To reach the island, a cheap water taxi makes trips from morning to evening, just in time to make it back to your resort to watch the sunset.
But before then, Isla Ixtapa is perfect for a digital detox day as you can spend countless hours catching rays, snorkeling and eating some of the fresh seafood imaginable at a beachfront restaurant.
Beachgoers do swim at Ixtapa’s beaches, but keep in mind this is croc and shark territory.
