There’s no better time than spring to take a cross-country trip.
The temperatures have just started getting warmer and, let’s face it, most of us are trying to keep our travels domestic during these months in an effort to make that tropical summer getaway a bit more special.
Even those who do have a bit of leeway in their budget, though, will still want to capture just how gorgeous the U.S. gets this time of year.
Here’s why:
3. Arizona
If you’re a sucker for outdoor adventures and gorgeous natural landscapes, you’ve already found your winner!
Arizona in springtime is a playground for adventure seekers looking to take in some of the country’s most breathtaking views, and with temperatures that range between 58°F and 65°F (14°C and 29°C), you’ll find these months to be ideal for hiking, climbing, or anything outdoorsy really.
If you haven’t yet, seeing the Grand Canyon is a must.
I know this is a bit of a cliche, but there’s a reason why people fly here from all corners of the world – it’s not one of the Seven Natural Wonders for nothing.
After a long sightseeing session, you can always go hiking, rafting, or camping along the canyon’s rim or even within its depths.
When you’ve checked “see the Grand Canyon” off of your to-do list, you can spend the rest of your time in Arizona exploring the rock formations of Sedona, marveling at the towering saguaro cacti of Saguaro National Park, and walking around the mystical landscapes of Monument Valley.
City trippers, on the other hand, will love exploring the rich entertainment scene of Phoenix, Tucson, and Scottsdale, just to name a few.
2. Nevada
One interesting detail to note about this top 3 ranking is the fact that each of the states included in it caters to a different and very clearly defined demographic of travelers.
If Arizona is an adventure haven, Nevada is a magnet for fun seekers looking to leave the stresses of day-to-day life behind and explore the thriving entertainment scene of some of the funnest destinations on Earth.
At the forefront of Nevada’s tourism lies – of course – Las Vegas.
The city that’s become synonymous with buzzing clubs, 24-hour entertainment, and uninhibited fun, continues to attract people from all over the U.S. and beyond in tens of millions, and for good reason.
Where else can you find world-class shows, exclusive dining establishments, and the type of judgment-free atmosphere Vegas is known (and loved) for?
Beyond the glitz and glamour of Sin City, though, those visiting Nevada this spring won’t want to miss out on the many natural attractions spread out across the state, either.
Between Red Rock Canyon, the Valley of Fire State Park, the Mojave Desert, and more, there’s so much beauty to take in that you’ll struggle trying to cram it all in a couple of days’ vacation.
1. Florida
The fact that Florida has nabbed the top spot is impressive, but I can’t say that it was unexpected.
The Sunshine State has consistently been making news for the last couple of months, with many of its destinations breaking all-time tourism records (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).
And if you really think about it, it’s easy to understand why so many people are falling back in love with the sunny hub that welcomes visitors with wide smiles, gorgeous beaches, and the type of fusion cuisine that can’t be enjoyed anywhere else on Earth.
If you’re not a big beachgoer (though that’s hard to imagine), you’re probably a theme park lover just waiting to see everything Orlando has to offer, a nature enthusiast dying to explore the wonders of Everglades National Park, or an energetic hiker interested in walking through the famous Florida Trail.
Either way, there’s truly something for everyone in Florida (though sun lovers will have an especially good time here).
