The smartest travelers know that getting the best experience of a destination at the lowest price is all about timing.

For instance, a summer trip to Barcelona or Paris will cost you a lot more than it would during the off-season, and you’ll be battling crowds.

If you time your traveling with the seasons, you can save yourself a lot of money and headache…

A recent report from luggage storage company Bounce analyzed hotel price data and fluctuations to reveal the cheapest and most expensive months to visit popular destinations.

According to this analysis, the coming months are among the cheapest times to book a hotel in the following trendy international destinations.

Since spring falls outside of countries like Thailand and Maldives peak tourist seasons, you are also more likely to score a deal on flights this time of year.

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Lovingly nicknamed Thailand’s “jewel of the North”, this cultural hotspot falls on many seasoned travelers and nomads’ personal lists of favorite cities.

Chiang Mai is a can’t-miss destination in Thailand if you desire to experience the best of Thai culture.

From its ornate temples to the night markets filled with talented vendors selling all kinds of handicrafts, this city is the epicenter of the north.

Bounce’s data shows that December is the most expensive time to book hotels in Chiang Mai, while May is the cheapest–the latter offering savings of up to 73.5%

Though it may be less popular and hotter than visiting Thailand in winter, May is a good time to visit Chiang Mai for the following reasons.

If you arrive towards the end of April or in May, you’ll avoid high-season crowds and the unpleasant burning season.

From February-April in northern Thailand, farmers set fire to the fields, burning excess crops and creating smoky air pollution that obscures mountain views and can irritate your respiratory system.

By May, early rains usually wash pollution from the air, and farmers have completed their task, meaning cleaner air and lusher forests.

Phuket, Thailand

On the other geographical end of Thailand, we have one of the world’s most popular beach destinations: the iconic Phuket.

Overall, you’ll pay more to visit this island than you will in Chiang Mai, as it’s a more touristy destination, but if you visit in May, you could save up to 73% on hotels.

If you’re looking for an indulgent beach escape in an exotic location, Phuket is your place.

You’ll find Instagram-worthy blue waters, an abundance of restaurants and spas, and your pick of everything from hostels to luxury hotels.

Plus, who doesn’t love all the delicious Thai food you can eat?

Phuket offers excellent opportunities for fine dining and discovering Thailand’s diverse flavors and amazingly fresh seafood.
