If you love taking international vacations but you don’t like splashing the cash, then there’s never been a better time to travel.
That’s according to Airlines For America who conducted new research to reveal that, when adjusted for inflation, U.S. airfares are at a historic, all-time low this summer.
And to prove it I’ve been doing some flight research again (one of my favorite hobbies!)
I’ve found 6 international destinations Americans can fly roundtrip for under $250 this summer.
Vancouver, Canada
It makes sense that our neighbors to the North are one of the cheapest international destinations to fly to this summer, because they’re one of the closest international destinations for American travelers.
For these examples, I have only looked at nonstop flights where you can fly round trip in and out of the same airports: no jumping around, no tight layovers, and no hassle required!
You can fly from San Fransisco International airport to Vancouver International airport with Westjet on August 8 at 3.20 pm and return on August 15 at 12.05pm for $133 return.
This fare includes a personal item, but you will have to pay extra if you want to take a checked bag or carry on luggage.
August is one of the best times of year to visit Vancouver so this is a great choice. The city has a warm, Mediterranean-type climate and it’s a great time to get outdoors and enjoy all the summer events the city has to offer.
Managua, Nicaragua
Although August is officially part of the wet season in Nicaragua, it’s still a great time to visit the country.
You’ll avoid the worst of the rains (which land in September and October) and the temperatures are comfortable, while also taking advantage of the cheapest prices.
You can fly from Fort Lauderdale International Airport to Managua Airport on August 12 at 2.30 pm and return at 2.00 pm on August 16 with Spirit for just $165 round-trip.
This is perfect for anyone looking for a short break on a budget!
Managua is a great destination for anyone looking for a vibrant city break, but if you’d prefer to flop on a beach then Montelimar beach is the closest to the city and can be reached in a 1 hour 20 minute drive.
Montego Bay, Jamaica
Jamaica is typically not an easy place to visit on a tight budget, but with flight prices this cheap, we’d be willing to give it a try!
These flights leave Atlanta and go straight to Montego Bay for just $243 per adult.
To get this rate you’ll fly with Frontier and leave Atlanta on August 18 at 12.55 pm then return a week later on August 21 at 4.01 pm.
Like all of the fares on this list, these flights don’t include a checked bag or carry-on luggage, but you can add these for an extra charge.
You will get to bring a personal bag for free though, and if you’re going to be in a bikini on the beach all week, you probably won’t need much more than that anyway!
Guatemala City, Guatemala
I actually can’t believe how cheap it is to get from the U.S. to Guatemala right now (If I wasn’t based in the UK, I’d book these flights myself!)
You can fly from Houston, Texas, to Guatemala City for just $177 nonstop roundtrip.
You’ll fly out on August 9 at 11.13 am and then return on August 13 at 1.50 pm. These flights are with Spirit, so it’s budget all the way, but it’s worth it for the savings.
To book a United flight on the same route and on the same dates would cost $449.
Guatemala City is an incredible place to take a fast-paced summer short break. It’s hot and humid, but there are fewer tourists than in the high season and so much to do. Now is a great time to hike up the active volcano or cool off in the National Museum of Mayan Art.
Mexico City, Mexico
Mexico is one of America’s most popular vacation destinations, but during the heat of the summer the cooler climate of Mexico City is the best place in the country to be.
And also one of the most affordable (in terms of flights, at least!)
Fly from San Antonio to Mexico City and spend a week exploring the city for just $213. To get these prices you’ll fly from Friday 16 August to Friday 23 August. The flight times are good too, departing at 5.50 pm and then returning at 1.25 pm.
These flights are with the Mexican carrier Vivo Aerobus.
Sydney, Australia
Saving the best for last, this one went $5 over budget at $255, but it was too good not to share with you guys!
If you live in Hawaii or can get to Honolulu without breaking the bank then you can actually fly a non-stop round trip to Sydney, Australia for $255! It sounds too good to be true, and I had to check the figures 3 times because I wasn’t sure they were correct.
They are!
These flights are with JetStar and you will leave Honolulu on August 10 at 8.20 am then return on August 17 at 4.20 pm giving you a whole week to explore Sydney, Australia!
August is winter in Sydney but the city still enjoys plenty of sunshine. So you can relax on the famous Bondi Beach, enjoy views of the Sydney Opera House, and go across Sydney Harbor Bridge.
