As if Cancun needed any more hype, there are now 47 more reasons to visit this year.
You might think that’s a random number, but without boring you with a math lesson nobody wants to read, the truth is that Cancun’s awesomeness has just been backed by a prestigious award.
Well, 47 of them to be exact. Not too shabby, eh?
As it’s an election year here in the States, you may notice more American flags flying high in patriotic anticipation.
But Cancun is showboating their flags for an entirely different reason, and thankfully you don’t have to listen to political pundits to find out why.
You’re welcome!
Cancun Awarded 47 Blue Flag-Certified Beaches For 2024-2025 Season
It’s no surprise Cancun beholds gorgeous white sand beaches and aqua blue seas, but just how clean and pristine Americans’ favorite vacation destination truly is might blow your mind.
Let’s be honest with ourselves for one sec. We as travelers, especially when splurging on a picture-perfect vacation, want it to be just that – picture-perfect.
If it’s not, we run to Yelp, TripAdvisor, or anywhere where else with a comment section to voice our (often) unwanted opinions.
But Cancun is one of the rarities where most vacationers know what they’re signing up for, with the exception of some unsightly sargassum, but that has reportedly not been much of an issue this summer.
Cancun is pure paradise lined with dreamy resorts along miles-long stretches of stunning beaches, where 47 of them now fly Blue Flags to reflect just how flawless they are, including private beaches at resorts.
Should you want to avoid the comment section for complaints, you now have 47 beach areas at your fingertips, setting expectations for the ultimate beach getaway in Mexico’s top paradise.
New Additions Join Cancun’s Blue Flag Elite
Last year, Cancun’s beaches boasted a total of 43 Blue Flags. This year, the number jumped to 47 with new additions to the party.
Of course, the most famous beach, Playa Delfines, made the cut, but another terrific trio of beaches stand out the most for the new season, according to The Cancun Sun.
The first new Blue-Flag beach is Chac Mool, receiving rave reviews from recent beachgoers with comments like, “normally my dad always takes me to Delfines, but without a doubt this beach is better”.
Bold words, sir.
Second, further south from Chac Mool, Ballenas has joined in on the action.
It’s another stunner not finding itself on the wrong side of a comment section with one vacationer claiming it’s a ‘quiet, intimate beach, with good access from the city’ and the ‘penultimate beach of Zona Hotelara’.
Lastly, Marlín rounds out the notable new additions where one recent sun-soaker exclaimed on Google, “Such a beautiful beach!! The sand was really soft and the water was gorgeous.”
Not to mention, these 3 popular resorts received Blue Flag certification too:
- Fiesta Americana Condesa
- Live Aqua
- Iberostar
What Qualifies For A Blue Flag?
Not to quote Ron Burgandy, but Blue Flags are kind of a big deal.
Blue Flags go through a tedious process to determine which destinations meet explicit criteria enabling them to fly the prestigious flag.
It all comes to down to 4 categories:
Environmental Management:
This includes aspects such as having adequate waste bins and proper sewage infrastructure
Water Quality:
Undergoes rigorous testing to determine bacteria levels, and waters must be suitable for bathing
Environmental Education and Information:
Must inform public of local marine life and environment, along with clear-cut beach rules and Blue Flag information
Safety and Services:
Includes active lifeguards or lifesaving equipment on-hand and having first-aid and clean drinking water available
Cancun Just Became Even More Enticing To Visit!
Statistically, Cancun is the top international vacation destination for Americans, so how much more of a push could you need?
Well, factoring in how Cancun is now the leading destination for Blue Flag-certified beaches, that has to account for something, right?
As July has zoomed by, there’s just one more full month of summer left, and it just so happens to be the cheapest to fly.
August brings huge savings for Cancun-ers. Expect great deals on all-inclusive resorts and even flights under $250 round-trip from major airports.
