In a long-awaited move, the island of Bermuda finally dropped all COVID-related travel restrictions, returning to normal tourism.
Effective November 14, 2022, visitors to the island will no longer need to apply for the Bermuda Travel Authorisation, according to an announcement from the government.
Previously, all travelers were required to apply for the Bermuda Travel Authorisation no later than 24 hours before departure. The application came with a $40 fee and required all travelers to upload either proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test for unvaccinated travelers.
Unvaccinated travelers were also required to demonstrate proof of medical insurance covering COVID.
However, as of next week, all of these requirements will be dropped, making it easier to travel to Bermuda once again.
What Does This Mean For Travelers?
As of November 14, 2022, travelers will no longer be required to apply for the Bermuda Travel Authorisation.
This removes all entry restrictions and means that visitors to Bermuda will no longer need proof of vaccination, a negative COVID test, or medical insurance covering COVID to enter the country.
Travelers will still need to complete the online application for the Bermuda Arrival Card, which is a requirement that was in place prior to the pandemic. However, there is no application fee for this form and it only takes a few minutes to complete.
Bermuda, a British Overseas Territory known for its pink-sand beaches and great snorkeling and scuba diving, is one of the latest destinations to drop all entry requirements and return to normal tourism.
This island, which is a popular port of call on cruises, took a surprisingly long time to fully reopen.
While the United Kingdom was one of the first countries in Europe to drop mask mandates and removed all entry requirements back in March, its territory Bermuda did not even allow unvaccinated visitors until August.
Now, Bermuda has finally caught up, joining the 120+ countries around the world that have dropped all travel restrictions and entry requirements.
