Is there any place in Mexico more exciting to visit in the coming months than Tulum?
Mexico’s beach towns are always mega-popular for a sunny getaway, but Tulum may be the hottest place on the map.
Many airlines have announced inaugural flights to Tulum’s brand-spankin’ new airport already, but more keep on comin’.
JetBlue is the latest to join the party. Even though the new airport opened earlier this month, many U.S.-based travelers will have to wait until 2024 to take advantage.
That’s not the only hype about Tulum heading into 2024. The bottom line is Tulum is becoming so much easier to reach in more ways than one.
All you have to decide is how you will get there.
JetBlue’s Newest Route
You rarely hear a bad word about JetBlue. Some would say it’s the most hip airline. Any time they offer a flight where you need to go, this trendy carrier is the clear choice.
To no surprise, JetBlue wants a piece of the action in Mexico’s trendiest destination.
Like a handful of other major airlines, new flight announcements have been coming in hot with the anticipation of the new international airport.
Now that ribbon-cutting ceremonies have commenced, and flights are taking to the skies, JetBlue will be bringing New Yorkers to this beach paradise.
Goodbye Cancun, Hello Tulum
Travelers wanting to reach Tulum had to fly into Cancun and venture south for another hour by ground transport.
Hence the excitement of the new airport. Cancun may be the most popular international getaway for Americans, but not all of them stay in Cancun proper.
Many tourists make the trek to Tulum, but now it will be so much easier to reach in a straight shot in 2024.
Beginning June 13, 2024, JetBlue’s Tulum route will fly nonstop from New York City (JFK) to Tulum (TQO) on a daily basis, with departures from JFK at 7:55 a.m. and landing at TQO at 12:45 p.m.
As one of the biggest hubs for the East Coast, this is great news for travelers who were dreading the extra steps to reach Tulum.
Without intending to sound like an infomercial, perhaps the best news of all is you can save money if you act fast.
JetBlue launched a promo rate as low as $149 each way for a limited time.
Train Or Plane?
JetBlue is among the best ways to reach Tulum by air, but travelers will have to wait until summer. With many looking to escape frigid winters at home, travelers may have to take another airline or fly to Cancun after all.
Opting for the Cancun route is no longer the hassle it once was upon landing with the addition of the exciting new Maya Train.
That is if you can score a ticket!
The initial launch between Cancun and Tulum happened December 15th, and tickets sold out at lightning speed.
The Cancun International Airport will be one of the major stops along the scenic train route, where travelers have a thrilling new way to experience this region of Mexico.
The Maya Train is opening in sections. The finishing touches are expected in early 2024 where travelers have a wide range of options to venture around awesome cultural sites and incredible beach towns.
What Else Is New?
Tulum has been a popular cultural getaway for years with so many places to explore. Add in a thriving arts scene; this hip beach getaway checks off all the boxes for a memorable trip.
Home to gorgeous blue waters, otherworldly cenotes and lush green jungles with historical Mayan ruins, tourists have endless sights to see in Tulum.
Now that it’s easier to reach than ever before, the new airport and Maya train overshadow other exciting additions in the region.
Although Tulum offers incredible Mayan sites, tourists may want to add 3 new ruins opening to the public for the first time.
For nature lovers, the new 7,000-acre Jaguar Park is a combination of Tulum National Park and the Protection of Flora and Fauna Jaguar (APFFJ) all tied together.
As its name reflects, this park is named after Tulum’s fiercest predator as a safe haven for the species – a must-visit for any outdoor enthusiast.
