Every great vacation starts with searching for that perfect destination – and that’s exactly what hundreds of millions of people are doing around the world as we speak!

And what better way to find that next place worth visiting than to scroll through TikTok, a platform that’s filled to the brim with dreamy landscapes and “must-see lists” that’ll influence even the most strong-willed of travelers.

That’s why the digital marketing experts over at Upbeat Agency went on a quest to discover TikTok’s favorite destinations by analyzing viewership data for over one year, and, in the end, there was one European country that clearly outperformed the rest, and, spoiler alert – it wasn’t Paris.

So, which is the platform’s most searched-for summer destination, and is it actually worth visiting?

Barcelona Has It All!

You might’ve guessed this one – Europe’s most searched hotspot is none other than Barcelona, a city known for its colorful buildings, incredible atmosphere, and the simple fact that it truly has it all.

View of Barcelona

Let’s start with the obvious first: the sights and architecture here are nothing short of iconic.

Sagrada Família, Park Güell, Casa Batlló, Casa Milà, the Gothic Quarter, and Montjuïc are all some of the most easily recognizable attractions, not only in Europe but the entire world (and if you’re one of the hundred-something million people searching Barcelona sights over on TikTok, these are probably the first landmarks that pop up).

Beyond all that, though, Barcelona is also the ultimate summer hub.

With beaches like Barceloneta, Bogatell, and Ocata blessing the city’s 4-kilometer (2.5-mile) long coastline, you’ll have the best time soaking in that beaming Spanish sun.

If all that’s not enough to convince you to pack your bags, think about the unbelievable food scene here – whether you’re dining in Cinc Sentits, Can Culleretes, or just roaming around La Boqueria Market, I can guarantee you’ll fall in love with Catalan cuisine and never look back.

Once the night falls, the iconic club scene, complete with world-famous places like Razzmatazz and Opium, is just waiting to be explored.

Not As Expensive As You’d Think

When most people think of a trip to Barcelona, their minds immediately go to overpriced restaurants and $700-a-night hotels and they’re immediately put off by the experience altogether.

And while it’s true that an indulgent trip to the Catalonian hub is always possible, the truth of the matter is that you can make the experience as expensive or budget-friendly as you want it to be.

Anecdotal evidence shows that most financially-savvy travelers can get by on roughly $100 – a steal considering the views, atmosphere, and culture you’ll be getting in return.

Hostels start at just $20 a night, a quick meal for one hovers around the $6-$7 mark, and considering that you’ll be in one of the most walkable cities in the world, you won’t have to spend much on transportation, either.

With that said, the average visitor is probably looking at something closer to $250, which, while not cheap, isn’t too outrageous either.

Even If You’ve Already been To Barcelona, There’s Always Something New To Explore

The thing about Barcelona is that even if you’ve already seen the world-famous places I talked about before, there are so many new exciting places popping up in the city every month that you’ll never run out of things to see or do.

These past couple of years, an incredible array of new restaurants have come to the city, with Âme, Kintsugi, Público, Mae, and XeiXa leading the way.

The same goes for hotels too.

Those looking for a new place to stay can’t go wrong with Antiga Casa Buenavista, Via Sants, Arcelon, or Praktik Èssens – just be warned that these aren’t the most budget-friendly picks.

The Rest Of The Top 10

While there’s no denying the fact that Barcelona is an overall fantastic travel destination, it might not be on everyone’s itinerary this year, so, if you’re still lacking some inspo, reading through the rest of the cities that made it to the top 10 of the Upbeat Agency ranking might help.
