New European Airline Launches Direct Flights to U.S. And Canada

Eurowings Discover, a long-haul German airline is looking to make a huge expansion to their flight map in the coming months. This new leisure airline associated with the Lufthansa Group, is adding brand new destinations throughout Canada, the Caribbean, and the U.S.

The newly formed airline took to the skies back in July 2021 hoping to appeal to holiday passengers traveling to far-off exotic locales, without the added stress of a connection or layover. Currently, the airline runs flights to destinations in a number of cities around Africa, Europe, and the U.S., from their hub in Munich and Frankfurt, Germany. By Summer 2022, Eurowings Discover plans to serve 44 destinations from their hub in Frankfurt and 25 flights from their second hub in Munich, Germany. But beginning this month, the airline is looking to expand even more, offering passengers new routes and new options for North Americans looking to go to Europe.

New Routes in the U.S.

This past month, Eurowings Discover launched their inaugural flight to Tampa International Airport nonstop from Frankfurt. This brand-new flight will launch four times weekly and will become a second option for passengers traveling to Europe from this city. Additionally, British Airways offers a direct flight to Gatwick Airport in London, five times a week.

Beyond the recent Tampa flights, the airline plans to launch six additional destinations throughout the U.S. and Canada during 2022.

Frank Naeve, Vice President of Passenger Airline sales, The Americas, Lufthansa Group said, “The United States remains the most important market for the Lufthansa Group outside of our European bases, and we remain committed to the region as we map our recovery from the impacts of the pandemic.”

Eurowings Discover plans to kick off flights this year direct to Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Florida – which is set to begin on March 28, 2022 and run four times weekly from Frankfurt. A flight from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in Alaska is planning to begin in May, and will run three times weekly to Frankfurt. The company has also announced future flights to Las Vegas and Salt Lake City – though an official launch day has not been released as of yet.

New Routes to Canada

The United States is not the only country that Eurowings Discover is looking to expand to, they also have their sights set on Canada. Beginning on May 23, 2022 the airline is planning a direct flight from their Frankfurt hub direct to Calgary International Airport, four times a week. The Canadian flights don’t stop there. On June 13th, 2022, Eurowings Discover will begin non-stop service to Halifax Stanfield International Airport from Frankfurt, three times weekly.

Caribbean Destinations

For passengers looking to escape the cold, Eurowings Discover is also looking to increase flight options to the sunny Caribbean. This past week, the airline made its inaugural flight from Frankfurt, Germany to Puerto Plata located in the Dominican Republic. This is the third route to the Dominican Republic for this airline, joining their direct flights to Punta Cana from Frankfurt AND Munich which launched last fall. This flight to Puerto Plata will run twice weekly, on Wednesday and Saturday.  Other destinations in the Caribbean the airline already serves are the beautiful island of Barbados, Montego Bay in Jamaica, and the beach resort city of Varadero in Cuba.

On Board Experience

Eurowings Discover operates the Airbus A330 aircraft on their long-haul routes, offering three different classes of service – Economy, Premium Economy, and Business.

Economy class offers passengers a high-quality travel experience, with all meals and non-alcoholic beverages included in the price. In addition, there is a buy-on-board option for further snacks and alcoholic drinks.

Premium Economy service offers travelers wider seats, extra leg room space with footrests, and large TV monitors. All meals are included, as well as a complimentary selection of beer and wine.

Business class guests can expect extra wide seats that transform into full-sized beds. They will also have their choice of meal and a selection of alcoholic drinks included in the price.

Alliance Partners

Due to the Lufthansa Group’s involvement in the Star Alliance, Eurowings Discover has partnered with United and Air Canada for passengers to earn and redeem miles. This means when booking a Eurowings Discover flight, passengers should input their United Mileage Plus Number or their Aeroplan Frequent Flyer Number to use or redeem miles for their trip.
