Though I usually advocate for travelers to book their trips well ahead of time, there are some special cases in which waiting it out might be the best thing you do to save some money on that dream vacation of yours.

Case in point – airfare to five of the world’s most gorgeous sunny destinations has reached its annual low, so if you were hoping for a last-minute beach getaway this October, congratulations!

You can score some serious deals.

And if you’re not totally sure where you want to go this fall for some much-needed sunshine, consider this your source of inspiration, too, because the places featured below are the kinds of destinations every traveler wants to experience at least once in a lifetime.

Cancun, Mexico

According to Skyscanner, round-trip tickets between the U.S. and our all-time favorite Mexican city will start at just $176 this month, and though that’s just a single route departing from Fort Lauderdale, most people around the country can still cover all their flight costs for under $400 – it’s a great deal no matter how you slice it!

And if you feel a bit overwhelmed or rushed and don’t want to pack your bags just yet, don’t worry.

November offers some similarly amazing deals, so you can take your sweet time picking a hotel and figuring out an itinerary – you’ll still manage to escape the summer/winter peak.

And I’m not just talking about plane ticket prices here; visiting Cancun now that the crowds have died down and Playa Delfines and Playa Tortugas aren’t massively overcrowded is truly a dream come true.

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

I know that Punta Cana has been all the rage these past couple of years, but right now, we’re focusing on the Dominican Republic’s stunning capital instead.

Santo Domingo is as rich in history and culture as it is in humble yet inviting beaches, which, by the way, are far cleaner and more peaceful this time of year.

The best news of all, though, is that this month you can fly to the Caribbean gem and back for just a little over $200 – the starting price point for economy flights in the summer is well over $450, so imagine how much space just opened in your hotel and entertainment budget!

Santa Marta, Colombia

Moving on to a lesser-known hub, Santa Marta is one of Colombia’s best-kept gems.

Right now, the city is officially entering its dry season so you can fully take in Playa Blanca and Tayrona without worrying about the weather (most days, temperatures average around a comfortable 82.4°F or 28°C, too).

More importantly, though, not only is this one of the best value destinations you can visit right now in Colombia and beyond, but flying in and out of the city is at its cheapest, too.

As we speak, round-trip plane tickets start at just $274, and November will probably see similar pricing.

Be warned, though, that as Santa Marta progresses into its dry season, airfare will inevitably increase, so you’ll want to move quick.

Krabi, Thailand

If you want to experience some of the world’s most jaw-dropping views this fall and are willing to fly across the globe for it, there’s no better destination for you than Krabi.

This often-overlooked Thai gem promises all the allure of Phuket and even the Maldives (yes, you heard me right) with none of the crowds and for a fraction of the price.

The only catch – flights to and from Krabi can get a bit pricey, I’m talking about thousands and thousands of dollars.

There is a time of year when a round-trip ticket falls below the $1000 mark, though, and that time’s now.

Those flying from LA this October and November can cover their travel to the Thai paradise with just $998, and when you see what you’ll pay for food, accommodation, and activities once you get here, it’ll all feel like a steal!

Bali, Indonesia

I’m not going to dwell on Bali too much since it’s one of those places that doesn’t need much introduction – chances are you’ve dreamed about coming here at least once in your life.

Well, now might just be the perfect time to finally realize those plans of yours since this October, you can fly to the iconic Indonesian province and back for just a little over $700 – I guarantee you won’t be able to find a better deal than this the rest of the year.
