Radisson Blu Edwardian is an elegant hotel in a sensational location facing Covent Garden’s trendy Seven Dials.
Staying away for a fun night out is my way of checking out of stressful life for a while. But that only works when you check in at a hotel and are greeted with smiles and a warm reception. At the Radisson Blu Edwardian hotel, the welcome is just that – smiles all around. There is also an uplifting, mild, appealing aroma in the ether around the reception area.
Plus, the hotel has an enviable location in Covent Garden’s Seven Dials district, where six streets fan out from the mini roundabout where the iconic Seven Dials sundial pillar stands. It is the work of Edward Pierce, who created it in the 1960s when the village of Seven Dials was being constructed.
The face of the hotel is narrow, as are all the other buildings that face the monument, each built on a triangular plot to maximise the frontage.
As the hotel is triangular in shape, it opens out into a light, bright and airy space. The clean lines, light grey slate, and the black reception desk is brought to colourful, almost theatrical life with bold, bright furniture and interesting artworks.
Who for
Couples, city breakers, and theatre lovers looking for a contemporary and stylish home for the night where they can enjoy the general vibe of this iconic area. It works for business and social meetups, around the lounge or at the bar before painting the town red.
Accommodation
There are 137 rooms comprising standard doubles, superior rooms, studios and suites dressed in muted, calming colours with interesting artworks and the odd dash of colour.
My room, 217, dubbed the pink suite, came with salmon hues, and though it had three windows that faced Seven Dials, it was surprisingly quiet. It was an almost but not quite L-shape with plenty of space for a sitting room complete with a large TV and the oversized bed, which was very comfy thanks to its Vispring mattresses.
The bathroom comes with a bath and pleasant REN toiletries. There’s a walk-in wardrobe with a theatre-style mirror and an eye-catching SMEG fridge looking very patriotic in its Union Jack livery.
Food & Drink
There is a high-end restaurant attached to the hotel where breakfast is served. The dinner menu is an artful fusion of Peruvian and Italian cuisine. You can read our review of Monmouth Kitchen here.
Breakfast comprises a buffet and an a la carte menu that offers an English, an Italian, a Peruvian (I was told this is quite spicey) and a Vegetarian breakfast.
Facilities
There’s free wifi throughout and a small but fully equipped gym. There is a business aspect to this hotel with four hi-tech meeting rooms on offer.
How much
Doubles start at around £245. Breakfast is £26.00 in the fabulous Monmouth Restaurant.
What’s nearby?
Radisson Blue Edwardian faces the iconic Seven Dials monument and is just steps away from shops and nearby eateries and, of course, the vibrant Covent Garden. Oxford Street, the Strand, Soho and all the entertainment the West End has to offer are all pretty much on its doorstep, including several theatres.
Verdict: Radisson Blu Edwardian offers elegant rooms, superb service and an ideal location for a great night out.
