There’s no better time to start planning next year’s vacations. Having a trip to look forward to is one of the best ways to get over the winter blues!
But where should you go?
Skyscanner have published their Travel Trends report for 2024 which reveals how and where people will travel next year.
These are the top 5 trending destinations for 2024:
5. U.S. Virgin Islands
The U.S. Virgin Islands are considered a paradise. Located in the northeastern Caribbean Sea you’ll find sugar-white beaches with turquoise waters, and smiling friendly people waiting to greet you.
The U.S. Virgin Islands are home to more than 200 miles of these stunning beaches as well as a handful of fascinating 17th and 18th century buildings, incredible mountain views, and plenty of outdoor activities for adventurous types.
For U.S. citizens, the U.S Virgin Islands are also an incredibly convenient vacation destination which may also explain why they are the 5th most trending destination for 2024.
U.S. citizens don’t need to hold a valid passport in order to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands. All you’ll need is to show evidence of citizenship, such as a government-issued photo I.D. when you’re leaving the islands.
4. Tokyo, Japan
Japan has had an exceptional year for tourism in 2023, and that doesn’t show any signs of abating as we move into 2024.
Tokyo is the capital of Japan, and it is the biggest city in the world.
Home to more than 37 million people, a figure that is often bolstered by huge numbers of tourists, Tokyo is a modern mega city that embraces technology leaving you feeling like you’re living in the future.
But alongside this futuristic approach you can also experience the whole breadth of traditional Japanese arts and culture too. Temples sit alongside skyscrapers. Traditional restaurants sit alongside bars where you’re served by robots.
Japan isn’t a cheap vacation destination but according to the report 39% of U.S. travelers have budgeted to spend more on travel in 2024 compared to 2023, meaning that they can go further afield.
3. Osaka, Japan
Tokyo isn’t the only Japanese destination that’s trending right now!
In fact, although it is the more well-known city (as well as being the capital), more people are searching for Osaka than Tokyo according to the Skyscanner research.
Osaka is known as Japan’s kitchen and it has a much more laid-back and bustling party atmosphere than Tokyo.
The city is famous for its amazing street food, diverse art and museum scene, edgy architecture, and nightlife that never stops.
Osaka is where the people of Japan go to let their hair down, which explains why it is trending with tourists looking for a good time in 2024.
Given that 47% of U.S. travelers have booked a destination based on a specific restaurant they want to visit, it makes sense that foodie Osaka is such a hit right now.
2. French Polynesia
Many of the destinations included on this list are beautiful, warm tropical islands with endless beaches and French Polynesia is no exception.
6 out of the top 10 trending destinations are warm and sunny islands, and weather was considered a deciding factor when choosing a destination for 45% of travelers.
French Polynesia encompasses an incredible 118 islands that appear sprinkled across the vibrant blue waters of the South Pacific. Bora Bora is the most famous of these islands.
People choose French Polynesia for the beaches, the natural beauty and the scuba diving offered in its impossibly clear waters.
French Polynesia is also a great destination for travelers looking for luxury thanks to its abundance of high-end resorts. It’s considered a bucket list destination and a place that many people aspire to visit.
1. Cayman Islands
The number one trending destination for travelers in 2024 is the Cayman Islands. The destination has seen a whopping 483% increase in online searches.
Another tropical island paradise, the Cayman Islands is a picture-perfect jewel in the Carribean.
Visitors are immersed in breathtaking natural beauty, the white sand beaches and exotic marine life make for exceptional beach days, and the locals are warm and welcoming.
The Cayman Islands have outstanding nightlife, so you don’t have to sacrifice vibrant evenings for laid-back days. You can listen to live music, dance in beachside bars, or enjoy the views on a waterfront terrace with a cocktail or two.
It’s clear to see why the Cayman Islands are such a trending destination right now.
