Being allowed only 10 days of paid vacation per year on average, it’s no wonder a majority of Americans think first and foremost of relaxation whenever going abroad once in a blue moon.
We’re talking five-star stays, being treated like royalty from the minute you check in to the time of departure, and enjoying round-the-clock catering: as fun as planning a trip on your own can be, there’s truly nothing quite like an all-inclusive stay south of the border.
If you’re one of those still wondering where to go for your stress-free, year-end getaway, it’s the number one luxury beach destination in Latin America that should be at the top of your list:
Why Is Cabo The Leading Luxury Beach Zone In LatAm?
As the Cabo Sun reports, Los Cabos is officially the leading high-end destination not only in Mexico, but all of Latin America, and looking at the information presented, we’re strongly inclined to agree, and we’ll tell you why exactly.
For starters, that renowned publication Travel + Leisure includes 9 Cabo properties in their yearly list of 25 Best Resorts in Mexico, including the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, a manmade oasis famous for its swim-up rooms and private beach access.
With one-week stays costing a whopping $6,857 this fall, it is the flagship hotel for Cabos’ glittery opulence, thanks to its award-winning spa services, chef-curated contemporary Mexican cuisine, and prime location a short 1.2 miles from downtown Cabo San Lucas.
Another one of Cabo’s landmark resorts is the adults-only Grand Velas Boutique Hotel, which prides itself in serving food of the finest quality and offering the peace and quiet lovebirds and solo visitors can’t find in one of those mainstream Cancun megaresorts.
For the odd foodie out there, you should know Cocina de Autor, a restaurant within the Grand Velas, has been awarded the MICHELIN One Star Award: they’re distinguished for their 8-10-course tasting menu, comprising fresh, mostly-native ingredients and an extensive, innovative cocktail menu.
Though yet to become a household name, the newly opened Four Seasons Resort and Residences Cabo San Lucas at Cabo Del Sol is already making waves with its intimate appeal—just under 100 rooms and suites and an additional 60 residences–and world-class amenities.
An ocean-view ‘La Casona‘ will set you back $998 per night this upcoming season, in line with other high-end hotels in the zone.
It’s not like you’ll mind shelling out the dough when everything’s taken care of for you, from commuting to and from the airport to leisure activities to planning dinners.
This ties into our next point:
Wellness Spots Galore
The Global Wellness Institute (GWI), a non-profit promoting wellness experiences worldwide, acknowledged Los Cabos has the ‘greatest presence‘ of dedicated wellness sites in Latin America, with numerous state-of-the-art hotels and spa facilities.
Indeed, nowhere south of the U.S. border does the luxury concept justice quite like Cabo, and that is because across a majority of local resorts, the well-being of guests is put first; you don’t need to trust our word on this, you can go ahead and check the figures for yourself:
As confirmed by Rodrigo Esponda Cascajares, a spokesperson for Los Cabos Tourism Trust, around 96 percent of visitors to Cabo are ‘satisfied’ with how their vacations went––that’s what we’d normally call a universal acclaim.
There are a few reasons for this, but the following five are the most relevant:
It’s in proximity to nature
Los Cabos is both a resort strip and an area of outstanding natural beauty and regardless of where you stay, you’re never too far from a pristine golden-sand beach or marine reserve that can be accessed by the wider public outside the confinements of a resort.
Sargassum is a non-existent issue:
Unlike Cancun and the wider Mayan Riviera, tourists can rest assured their trip to Cabo will not involve unpleasant encounters with the smelly algae regardless of season, as it is not at all a common occurrence in the Pacific
Big selection of five-star hotels:
In total, there are as many as 59 five-star listings in both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo on Booking.com, only slightly behind Cancun’s 62, but on the other hand, boasting a far bigger selection than Puerto Vallarta’s 15 and Acapulco’s limited 8.
Resorts are located farther apart:
Unlike other beach towns in Mexico, where resorts occupy a single strip, Cabo’s development zone stretches far and wide, for over 20 miles to be exact, and chances are you’ll always feel a greater sense of privacy here compared to Cancun or Puerto Vallarta, irrespective of your choice of hotel
New exciting openings:
It’s not like Cabo developers are stopping there, either: this year alone, several new resorts and wellness hubs are set to open their doors in the fast-growing resort zone later this year, with the long-awaited Soho House & Beach Club and a new St. Regis to name a couple.
Cabo Is Every High-Income American’s Tourism Playground
Last but certainly not least, part of Cabo’s success in the luxury tourism industry is attributed to the wide range of unique experiences it offers to those craving a taste of the rich-and-famous life without actually paying a heavy price for it:
For instance, you can fly to Cabo on a semi-private jet from the popular departure points of Los Angeles (LAX) and Dallas (Dallas Love Field) for less than $600––that’s nearly the equivalent of a Business seat on United Airlines, except you get far more amazing perks.
We’re talking as many as three checked bags on an ‘all-in’ airfare, plenty of legroom, pets onboard (in some cases), complimentary high-speed internet during the flight, and private, sped-up customs upon landing in Mexico—none of the usual long border wait!
In Cabo itself, there’s a whole list of extravagant activities that will keep the ball rolling, with a luxury yet-affordable-to-book Catamaran Tour (with snorkeling and lunch added) costing $139 per person, and a guided camel ride across Cabo’s dunes (coupled with an off-road ATV adventure) set at $107.70.
To sum it up, if you ever make it to Cabo, you’ll know you’ve made it in life, and let’s face it: an average overnight rate of $600 a night may sound like an excess, but it’s not that big of an ask when you’re essentially guaranteed the celebrity treatment––even if for a week.
