It will soon be easier and cheaper than ever to visit San Diego, thanks to new nonstop flights launching later this spring on Breeze Airways.

This sunny California destination is known for its great surfing, amazing beaches, delicious Mexican food (it’s only a few miles from the Mexican border, after all!), and great attractions like Balboa Park.

In fact, San Diego was just named the second-best city in the U.S. to visit for 2024! Travelers have been flocking to this Southern California city in record numbers, and it will soon be even easier and more affordable to get there.

Although San Diego is a great year-round destination, summer is the best time to visit for amazing weather and lots of events going on.

Breeze Airways, a low-cost carrier, is launching five new routes to San Diego later this spring. Here’s what travelers need to know about these new flights (and why you should visit San Diego this year!)

Excitingly, this is the first and only nonstop flight to San Diego for four out of the five cities on the list. Only Pittsburgh currently has flights to San Diego on another airline, Southwest.

“San Diego is one of the U.S.’s most popular summer destinations, with great food, beautiful beaches, and popular family attractions,” stated Tom Doxey, the president of Breeze Airways.

These new flight routes will make San Diego more accessible to millions of American travelers, and one-way fares for these transcontinental flights on Breeze Airways start as low as $129.

Why Visit San Diego?

So why should you even plan a trip to San Diego?

It’s the quintessential California destination. It’s more affordable to visit than Los Angeles or San Francisco, and it’s honestly a lot nicer and more laidback.

San Diego has been growing in popularity with solo travelers and digital nomads, and it’s a great place to meet others and attend fun events like music festivals and conventions like the annual Comic Con (which draws over 130,000 attendees each year!)

It’s also a great family destination, with kid-friendly activities like SeaWorld and the San Diego Zoo. Fans of art and culture will love exploring Balboa Park, a large complex full of 17 different museums. And of course, you can’t visit San Diego without hitting up some of the beaches (or even taking a surf lesson!)

Basically, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in San Diego.

And you can also take some awesome day trips from San Diego. Tijuana, Mexico is only 35 minutes away, so why not hop across the border for an afternoon? Or you can drive up to Dana Point and take the ferry to Catalina Island, a stunning small island off California’s coast.
