Officials at the United States state department have issued a global travel alert following a terrorist attack in Kenya which left score of civilians dead.
The warning urges American citizens to be on their guard against actions and violence against them by al-Qaâida and other militant groups.
It warned al-Qaeda and other groups could be planning attacks against US interests.
A statement read: âThe department of state remains concerned about the continued threat of terrorist attacks, demonstrations, and other violent actions against US citizens and interests overseas.
âCurrent information suggests that al-Qaâida, its affiliated organisations, and other terrorist groups continue to plan terrorist attacks against US interests in multiple regions, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
âThese attacks may employ a wide variety of tactics including suicide operations, assassinations, kidnappings, hijackings, and bombings.â
A list of specific dangers was included with the warning.
The state department also reminded US citizens of past attempted attacks on public transport systems and tourist infrastructure in Moscow, London and New York.
In early August 2013, the department of state instructed certain US embassies and consulates to remain closed or to suspend operations August 4th through August 10th because of security information received.
