If you’re yearning for a warm getaway, I’ve got just the place for you – Mexico.

Not only is it the only country on Earth to offer the perfect combo of pristine Caribbean beaches, fascinating culture, and incredible food, but it’s also a place where you’re basically guaranteed sunbathing-friendly weather year-round.

Yes, even now that fall is in full force, you can expect Mexico’s dreamy shores to cradle you with perfect 80°F (27°C) temperatures.

But where, exactly, do you go?

Since there’s not much time to procrastinate (especially if you want to avoid the winter rush), your best bet would be to note the places other like-minded travelers are loving the most right now. Good news: I have all of that info ready for you.

The Cancun Sun just released a report on three of the trendiest destinations in the Mexican Caribbean this season, and trust me when I say these are places you won’t want to miss out on.

Playa Del Carmen

With its gorgeous beaches, luxury resorts, laid-back vibe, and surprisingly reasonable prices, Playa del Carmen serves as the perfect alternative to busy Cancun, and people have obviously caught on to that.

Throughout the first half of the year, occupancy rates in the city have averaged an incredible 90%, which is basically unheard of even for bigger, far more famous tourist hubs.

The thing is – the place hasn’t lost its peaceful charm, at least not yet.

Sure, you can revel in the liveliness of the bustling beach clubs and Quinta Avenida, but there are still plenty of places around Playa del Carmen where you can just sit back with a good drink and relax (Chela de Playa would be my top choice for that), especially now that we’re in the middle of the shoulder season.

But the good news doesn’t end here.

Airfare to surrounding airports has reached its yearly low – according to Skyscanner, round-trip tickets to Cozumel (12 miles or 19 kilometers away) start at just $417 this November, whereas some flights to Cancun (and back) will cost you less than $180.

Akumal

If you’re looking for a place where you can get even further away from the rowdy crowds and more in touch with Mexico’s jaw-dropping nature, Akumal is your best bet.

Now, this is a resort town, much smaller than the other destinations on today’s list, but that’s exactly what makes it so alluring.

Boasting a far more authentic type of charm, untouched beaches, and endless opportunities for Sea Turtle Excursions, this is the perfect place for families, couples, or just anyone looking to get away from the stress and chaos of day-to-day life, really.

Right now, Akumal’s even less busy than usual, which’ll definitely make booking that tour I linked or finding a great hotel for an even better price (Itza Hotel Akumal is offering some amazing rates at the moment) easier for you.

Outdoor lovers, in particular, will have a blast here.

Not only is fall the best time to go sea turtle and even dolphin watching (the water visibility is amazing and the respective populations are thriving right now), but you can always embark on an expedition through the surrounding cenotes (Dos Ojos, Azul, and so on) or even the nearby jungles.

Cancun

No list of Mexico’s hottest destinations would be complete without Cancun, and this one’s no exception.

I know, I know, some of you might be put off by the sheer number of people coming here, the steep prices, and even the seemingly never-ending rules that affect you as soon as you set foot in the airport.

Well, choosing fall for your dream Cancun getaway already makes the first two issues far less noticeable, whereas dealing with the rules is always manageable so long as you come prepared, not to mention we’ve got plenty of tips to make the whole experience easier, so keep your eyes peeled.

And just to remind you – now’s the cheapest time to fly to Cancun, so if I were you, I’d book those tickets fast.
