Fall is here and travelers are chomping at the bit to find their next scenic getaway. There’s just something special about packing cozier clothes and being ready to see what colors fall brings.

But the question remains: where should you go? There are dozens of amazing places to experience fall in the U.S.

Commonly, many cities and parks across the Midwest and Northeast have some of the most scenic spots for fall foliage.

In fact, millions of tourists pour into one northeastern state for some of the prettiest sights fall could offer.

But this stunning state has a variety of reasons why fall is the best time to visit. Yes, we are talking about the great state of Alaska.

Have you ever met someone who has been to Alaska who was disappointed? Nope, those are few and far between.

This stunning state offers a ton to do and see this time of year.

Here is why the fall season is the best time to visit Alaska:

Cheaper Airfare

According to the Anchorage Daily News, one key reason to plan a fall trip to Alaska is the outrageously low airfare for this state.

Some would say Alaska is off the beaten path, yet it’s not that hard to reach. I mean, have you heard of Alaska Airlines?

Even though it’s made out to be another world away, it’s not that far-fetched to make a fun fall trip there.

Airfare tends to vary for multiple reasons, but if you want to make your next getaway to Alaska, it’s not uncommon to find flights this season in the $200’s or even lower.

Denali National Park

People talk about some of the natural wonders of the U.S., but Denali National Park tends to be overlooked.

You probably hear about how gorgeous Zion National Park or Yellowstone is in the fall, but Denali is absolutely magical.

Fly into the capital city of Anchorage (where most flights to Alaska arrive), and it’s a relatively easy journey north to this gorgeous park.

Bright orange trees line the winding back roads that will make you feel like you’re in another world, which Alaska often does

Its stunning nature is unparalleled, and there may be no better time to see it than autumn. You will find yourself truly in the wild with vibrant colors scattered throughout this amazing, preserved land.

One Of Few States To See The Northern Lights

Seeing the northern lights is on many traveler’s bucket lists, but you don’t necessarily need a passport to witness this phenomenon.

Some may choose to venture off to Scandinavia or Iceland to cross off this one-of-a-kind bucket list experience, but you can do it right here in the ol’ U.S. of A.

One of the best places in Alaska to see the Aurora Borealis is the city of Fairbanks in far north Alaska.

Given its geography, it’s perfectly set to bear witness to one of nature’s strangest spectacles. Some say October is the best time to go, but the sky lights up green in late September, too.

Cheaper, Less Crowded Cruises

Alaska may not have the blue waters of the Caribbean, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a top-notch cruise destination.

The scenery is spectacular, with lush green hills, ice-capped mountains, and unbelievable wildlife spotting, such as whales and dolphins. Or maybe a bear, which is obviously best to spot on a cruise.

What you may not spot is a cruise packed with people, as the shoulder season is much more enjoyable for those who appreciate more space.

Given the summer rush is over, prices tend to drop, making the experience even more enjoyable by saving some dough.

Beat The Frigid Winter

Alaska experiences frigid winters, so the fall season is the last chance to go before the weather becomes too harsh to enjoy.

While Alaska is breathtaking year-round, the other 3 seasons are much more pleasant. Fall can be chillier than other states, but it’s much more tolerable than the pending winter.

The further north you go, the colder it is likely to be. If your first stop is Anchorage, Alaska’s biggest city will get you started off right with your pumpkin spice latte before heading further into your adventure.
