The Best Weather
If you’re looking for a warm-weather getaway this fall or winter, head to the Southern Hemisphere!
In both Argentina and Brazil, the seasons are inverted to the Northern Hemisphere, so September, October, and November are spring, and December, January, and February are summer.
Although some tropical destinations like Rio de Janeiro, Brazil are hot year-round, you can enjoy warm, sunny weather in seasonal destinations like Buenos Aires, Argentina beginning in October.
Additionally, the Patagonia region of Argentina is best visited from November through February for mild weather, hiking, and outdoor activities.
Affordability In Argentina
Argentina is currently more affordable than ever for foreign travelers due to the exchange rate and an ongoing financial crisis in the country.
The economic situation in Argentina means that there are several different exchange rates — and tourists can easily access preferential rates that more than double the value of their money.
The “blue dollar” exchange rate can be accessed by changing money on the street or using Western Union. Another option is paying with a Visa credit or debit card, which gives you access to the MEP rate, which is almost as good as the blue dollar rate.
There has never been a better time to enjoy tango on the streets of Buenos Aires, go wine tasting in the vineyards of Mendoza, hike in Patagonia, or see the majestic Iguazu Falls than right now.

Visa-Free Entry To Brazil
Brazil has always been one of the more challenging countries to visit in South America because up until 2019, the country required American travelers (and Canadian travelers) to obtain a visa.
While this requirement went away in June 2019, making it easier for travelers to visit Brazil, the visa requirement is unfortunately coming back in 2024 and it will cost $160.
The good news is that this requirement has been delayed. It was originally set to return on October 1, 2023, but now it has been pushed to January 10, 2024.
This means that North American travelers have a few more months to visit Brazil without needing to apply for and pay for a travel visa. If you’ve dreamed about seeing the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio and hitting the city’s famous beaches or checking out the Brazil side of Iguazu Falls, now is your chance.
Beginning in 2024, it will be more difficult for North Americans to plan a trip to Brazil.
Visiting Argentina And Brazil
If you’re on a budget, sticking to just Argentina will save you money. Aside from the cost of flights, travel in Argentina is incredibly affordable right now.
Brazil, while more expensive, is still worth a visit, and it’s only going to get more expensive in 2024 when many travelers have to begin paying $160 for a visa again.
With just one week this fall or winter, the perfect Argentina and Brazil itinerary would include Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls (Argentinian and Brazilian sides), and Rio de Janeiro.
If you have more time, you can add additional stops like Mendoza, Argentina’s wine country, or Florianopolis, an island paradise in Brazil.
