Dreaming of an island getaway? These are the top island destinations for a winter trip, according to a new report.
Condé Nast Traveler surveyed more than half a million readers for its annual Readers’ Choice Awards to determine the best islands in the world.
According to the results, these are the best islands in the Caribbean and Atlantic region for 2023 that will have you booking a trip and packing your bags:
5. Turks and Caicos
Turks and Caicos is one of the top island destinations for travelers, especially those who are interested in scuba diving and snorkeling.
These islands, which are a British Overseas Territory, are home to some of the best dive sites in the world. You’ll see plenty of colorful coral, tropical fish, and other marine life.
Aside from its underwater beauty, Turks and Caicos also boasts stunning white-sand beaches and eight different inhabited islands for visitors to choose from, with Providenciales and Grand Turk being the most popular.
But for travelers who prefer to go off path and explore lesser-known destinations, look no further than secluded North Caicos or Middle Caicos.
It’s easy to visit Turks and Caicos this winter, with more than a dozen cities in the U.S. offering nonstop flights to Providenciales.
4. St. Lucia
St. Lucia is another one of the most popular islands in the Caribbean. This small island nation is famous for its dramatic scenery, including the breathtaking Pitons, which are two imposing volcanic spires.
While St. Lucia is not known for being one of the cheapest islands in the Caribbean, it is comparatively more affordable than the other destinations on this list, with the travel planning resource Budget Your Trip estimating a cost of $211 per day to travel in St. Lucia.
There’s something for everyone in St. Lucia, whether you’re interested in adventurous activities like hiking or riding horses on the beach or would prefer to relax by the pool or at the spa.

Getting to Anguilla is not as easy as visiting some of the other destinations on this list, but travelers who make the effort to visit this small, underrated Caribbean island are well rewarded.
Recently named one of the best islands in the Caribbean by another report from Travel and Leisure, Anguilla is a hidden gem that is growing in popularity. It’s the ultimate location if you want to discover a lesser-known island in the Caribbean.
The only way to get there from the U.S. is to fly from Miami; otherwise, several destinations in the Caribbean offer flight connections to Anguilla. This is a secluded paradise island right now, but it’s only a matter of time before it explodes in popularity.
2. St. Barts
One of the most-loved islands in the world is St. Barts. This Caribbean island is an overseas collectivity of France, and it’s known for being a luxurious enclave that has long attracted celebrities and jetsetters. If you want to splurge and feel like you’re living the high life, this is the place to go.
In St. Barts, you’ll find yourself spending time at exclusive beach clubs and trendy high-end restaurants. The island is also known for having tons of great luxury hotels and private villas.
