The world is wide and the possibilities of places to explore are endless.

Global travel is exciting, relaxing, adventurous and culturally enriching but it also needs to be safe.

I know safety might not be a sexy topic but it’s important.

And a new report from Berkshire Hathaway has revealed the safest cities for Americans to travel to in 2024.

These are the top spots:

6. Dubai

Dubai is one of the world’s safest countries when it comes to the likelihood of experiencing violent crime on your travels. The city also ranked highly for its freedom from disease.

It’s worth noting that Dubai didn’t rank higher than the 6th spot because it received low safety scores for solo female travelers and LGBTQ+ travelers.

But safety shouldn’t be the main reason you visit a destination! Dubai is an incredible city where you can explore awe-inspiring skyscrapers and beautiful beaches at the same time.

From incredible desert experiences to world-class shopping, there’s a side of Dubai for everyone.

5. Amsterdam

Amsterdam remains in the top 5 safest cities in the world thanks to its excellent safety record for women, LGBTQ+ travelers, and travelers of color.

Amsterdam also got good scores for transportation safety and freedom from terrorism.

A lot has been written about overtourism in Amsterdam lately, but despite this, it is still one of my favorite European cities.

Though sometimes abrupt, the people are warm and welcoming. Whether you’re walking alongside them or taking a boat ride on them, the canals are beautiful.

And the nightlife in Amsterdam is some of the best in Europe too.

4. Sydney

Sydney was ranked the 4th safest city in the world thanks to its consistent safety record across all measures.

It took a top 10 spot for terrorism safety, transportation safety, and health measures and has a good safety record for women, LGBTQ+ travelers, and travelers of color.

As well as being safe, Sydney is also a fun and vibrant place to be. From the Sydney Opera House to the Sydney Harbor Bridge, the city is home to a host of iconic attractions.

People watch on Bondi Beach and then party the night away in one of Australia’s most exciting cities.

3. Reykjavik

The 3rd safest city in the world for 2024 is Reykjavik, which may come as a bit of a shock as the city usually takes the number 1 spot. This year it’s lost its crown!

But that doesn’t mean Reykjavik isn’t still a very safe place to visit.

It scores highly in almost every category, including safety from terrorism, safety for female and LGBTQ+ travelers, and transportation safety.

Reykjavik is a nature lovers paradise. It is a small city that’s easy to explore on foot or by bike and has a thriving arts scene and great night life.

But it’s when you get out of the city that you’ll start making those core memories.

Think explosive geysers and thundering waterfalls as well as some of the greenest and most beautiful landscapes you’ve ever seen.

2. Montreal

The Old City in Montreal

American travelers won’t have to go far to explore the 2nd safest city in the world. The Canadian city just missed out on the top spot.

Montreal ranked highly because it came in 1st place for its transportation safety while also ranking highly for the health measures in place in the city, violent crime safety, and terrorism safety.

Montreal is a great place to visit because it offers a little bit of everything. Culture vultures, history buffs, and outdoor adventurers will all feel at home here.

Montreal is a cosmopolitan city with amazing architecture that is both period and modern, a huge variety of delicious food, beautiful outdoor areas, and so much to see and do.

1. Honolulu

The safest city for American travelers this year is officially Honolulu.

Why?

Because Honolulu is considered the world’s most welcoming destination for women, LGBTQ+ travelers, and travelers of color.

There is little risk of being a victim of violent crime here, and freedom from disease rankings are high too.

As well as being safe, Honolulu is an incredible, tropical island paradise, and a bucket list vacation destination. Think an abundance of beaches with stretches of beautiful golden sand.

Whether you want to swim, surf, or just relax with a cocktail, the options are endless, and it’s easy to find the right beach for you.

Away from the beaches, Honolulu is at the epicenter of Polynesian and indigenous Hawaiian culture.
