We’ve all heard the stories about European cities getting so overcrowded that local governments are taking measures to actively limit the insane number of visitors pouring into their streets during these chaotic summer crowds.
By default, some of the world’s most coveted landmarks have gotten too popular for their own good, with travelers constantly complaining about long lines and the fact that it’s actually impossible to get a decent picture.
But if you, too, are planning that perfect European getaway this summer, how can you make sure to avoid all that?
To help you out, Holidu just released a ranking of the most (and least) overcrowded attractions in all of Europe.
How did they figure this out?
They went through thousands of Tripadvisor reviews on popular landmarks in hopes of finding the busiest and quietest of them all, and the findings were anything but expected.

5. The Holocaust Museum, Germany
Between breaking all-time visitor records and hosting the long-awaited 2024 UEFA European Football Championship, it’s safe to say that Germany is having an amazing year tourism-wise.
Still, some of the country’s most important attractions have managed to fly under the radar – case in point, the Holocaust Museum.
I know that most people coming to Germany this summer are looking for a fun escape from the worries and stresses of day-to-day life, but the poignant tribute to the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust is still one of those places every traveler needs to see at least once in a lifetime.
The 2,711 concrete slabs that create a maze-like effect can make you feel disoriented, confused, or uneasy, and maybe that’s why most people opt to tour the nearby Brandenburg Gate instead, but the emotional and educational impact you’ll get here is truly unmatched.
4. Hungarian Parliament Building, Hungary
If you’re an architecture lover looking for one of the finest examples of Gothic Revival architecture in the world, the Hungarian Parliament Building is the place to see this summer.
Even if you’re not, though, a guided tour through the Main Hall, the Dome Hall, where the Hungarian Crown Jewels are displayed, and the fantastic Assembly Hall will make for the experience of a lifetime, especially considering you’ll be able to enjoy it all without the suffocating crowds.
3. Memorial of the Berlin Wall, Germany
Surprisingly enough, we’re coming back to Germany – this time, to explore the Memorial of the Berlin Wall.
Located at Bernauer Strasse, this is easily one of Germany’s most iconic attractions, a remnant of a difficult past that can now be explored through a series of outdoor exhibits, multimedia displays, and personal stories – and, best of all; you won’t have to deal with hundreds of other people while doing that, either.
2. Palace of Parliament, Romania
As the heaviest building on Earth, Romania’s Palace of Parliament is truly a sight to behold.
Featuring over 1,100 rooms, vast halls, gorgeous chambers, and more conference rooms than you can count spread over 12 floors and 8 underground levels (which, by the way, are said to have been built as emergency escape routes), the sheer scale and opulence of the palace will leave you at a loss for words.
1. The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet House, Norway
Claiming the No. 1 spot on today’s list is the criminally underrated Norwegian National Opera & Ballet House in Oslo.
Opened in 2008, the building made from Italian marble and granite rises from the Oslofjord and creates the illusion of a glacier floating over water – and don’t even get me started on the year-round accessible rooftop that promises the most jaw-dropping views of the Norwegian capital.
Don’t get me wrong – more historical sites like the Viking Ship Museum are still must-sees, but don’t let these newer additions to Oslo’s incredible attraction scene go unnoticed, either.
