Want to travel somewhere new and exciting? Well, it’s never too early to plan out your next escape!
Many of us are still focused on summer getaways, but Alaska Airlines is enticing us for fall and winter escapes already.
While Cancun, Mexico City, and Los Cabos have become the go-to’s for Americans to get their fix for sunny vacations and cultural explorations, let’s not forget how many destinations fly under the radar.
One of them being a popular day-trip or weekend getaway from Los Cabos, the beautiful coastal Baja gem of La Paz.
This gorgeous beach city has made a name for itself as part of many Los Cabos itineraries as well as Todos Santos, but now Americans can fly nonstop to this postcard-worthy paradise with Alaska Airlines.
Why Visit La Paz?
Like I mentioned, La Paz can’t quite be deemed ‘undiscovered’ as it’s become a trendy spot for Cabo vacationers.
However, this historic flight makes La Paz all the more appealing as you can skip out on the 2-hour journey from Los Cabos, oftentimes dealing with traffic.
By taking a straight shot to La Paz, you’ll discover fewer crowds, Balandra’s insanely beautiful blue waters, and more culture than ritzy Los Cabos can offer.
Curated resorts and bougie restaurants aren’t exactly real Mexico, whereas La Paz appears untouched in some areas like El Mogote and a blissful walk along the scenic Malecon just doesn’t get any better.
While not the cheapest place in Mexico, anything beats Cabo, right?!
Prices have soared for Cabo resorts, but La Paz holds its own with some great stays like the new Hotel Indigo – although the priciest of the bunch for sure.
One of the best deals this winter is Casa Bahía Suites for $115 per night in December. Set waterfront in a walkable part of the city; tourists rave about it, hence the perfect 5-star rating on Google.
Alaska’s Historic New Flight To La Paz
Alaska proudly announced the expansion of its already impressive Mexican network, including destinations such as Cancun, Mexico City, Mazatlan, and lesser-known resort towns like Ixtapa.
Of course, Alaskan loyalists can still fly to Los Cabos too if they so choose, but beginning November 20, 2024, why not give La Paz a shot?
As the only nonstop flight from the U.S., late November is the perfect time to plan a trip for sunny weather on your Thanksgiving break.
Turkey is overhyped anyway, especially when you can indulge in La Paz’s decadent fresh-from-the-source seafood.
Travelers looking to fly into La Paz directly will be able to choose between 2-3 weekly flights from Los Angeles (LAX).
Tickets are already on sale and being scooped up quick! Expect to pay in the $200 range for one-way tickets in late November and December.
Although, Californians looking to scoop up even better deals can road trip to the border and take advantage of the Cross Border Xpress – the ultimate travel hack for cheap Mexico flights from Tijuana.
But Wait! There’s More! Alaska Launching New Flight To Monterrey
La Paz may be the most notable new route, given it’s the only direct option, but travelers can also explore the vastly underrated city of Monterrey.
One of the biggest cities in Mexico often flies under the radar, overshadowed by Mexico City and even Guadalajara.
Monterrey is a beautiful city made for rooftops. I personally loved staying at the Radisson Hotel Monterrey San Jeronimo for awesome views of the Cerro de la Silla mountains.
Plus, Uber Eats will deliver tacos to the rooftop pool! Who needs room service anyway?
Alaska’s new route to Monterrey will also depart from LAX offering daily flights beginning February 13, 2025.
Additionally, expect increased service to Mazatlan and Ixtapa for some highly underrated beach vacations.
“We are pleased to announce that Alaska Airlines will begin operations from Monterrey Airport to Los Angeles, expanding its services from our airports along with Mazatlan and Zihuatanejo.”
