Fiji is a tropical island paradise with white sand beaches and dreamy landscapes.
It’s a bucket list destination and one that’s breaking records.
According to Tourism Fiji visitor numbers for 2024 are already 6.5% higher than last year. These means that the number of visitors to the country has hit a record high.
And now visiting Fiji is easier than ever as Americans can fly nonstop to Fiji from these 4 U.S. cities.
New Flights Between Dallas And Fiji
Fiji Airways has launched new nonstop flights between Dallas and Nadi International Airport with the first flights taking off on December 10.
Flights will operate three times per week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The route will take 13 hours each way and will mean that 1,000 passengers every week will be able to travel directly between Dallas and Fiji.
Of course the all-important question is how much will these brand-new flights cost?
I ran some sample itineraries though the Fiji Airways website. Departing on Tuesday January 7 and returning on Tuesday January 14 would cost $351 for the outbound flight and $443.11 for the inbound flight giving a total price of $794.11.
This is based on an economy class seat, and a value fare ticket. A value fare ticket includes meals, beverages, carry-on luggage and a 30kg checked bag. But excludes seat selection, which is available at an additional charge.
Existing Flights Between The U.S. And Fiji
This isn’t the only nonstop route between the U.S. and Fiji. There are already three existing nonstop flights to Fiji departing from Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Honolulu.
The flight from Los Angeles takes 11 hours and 10 minutes, the flight from San Francisco takes 11 hours and 25 minutes. Because it is much closer, the flight to Fiji from Honolulu only takes 6 hours and 50 minutes.
As well as three routes, there are 10 airlines that fly from the United States to Fiji.
I looked to see which was the cheapest route.
In January you can expect to pay $657 for a return flight from Honolulu to Fiji. To get this price you would travel from January 11 and return on January 19. This flight is with Fiji Airways. Qantas also have flights on the same day, but the price for these is almost double at $1,193.
If you’d prefer to fly from San Francisco then flying on January 12 and returning on January 19, you can expect to pay $1,248. These flights are with Qantas.
Why Visit Fiji?
Fiji is made up of 332 islands, divided into nine island groups. The main island, and the most popular with travelers, is Viti Levu. In part, that’s because Nadi International Airport is located here.
Fiji is a popular destination for honeymooners and even destination weddings, but there’s something for everyone here. Or at least, anyone that wants to relax on palm-fringed beaches and hike through lush jungles.
For adventurous travelers, you can enjoy a whole host of adrenaline pumping activites in Fuji ranging from the usual such as snorkeling and scuba diving to the really high octane such as white water rafting or even swimming with sharks.
With Beqa Adventure Divers you can book a Fiji shark dive where you have the opportunity to come face to face with up to 8 species of sharks and up to 450 species of fish. This costs FJ$475 ($208) per person.
Looking for a more sedate (or at least less toothy) experience? With Talanoa treks you can take a group hike through the heart of Fiji, exploring the wildlife and verdant vegetation as well as encountering remote communities.
These day trips start from FJ$50 ($22) per person.
