The Only U.S. Airline That Provides Free Wi-fi For All Passengers Will Add Streaming Service

In-flight entertainment options have come a long way in recent years. The increasing availability of wi-fi and seat-back entertainment options means that airline passengers are rarely bored. While onboard connectivity is becoming more common, there is only one U.S. airline that offers free wi-fi for the entire duration of the flight for all passengers. And as if that’s not enough, they have just announced more entertainment perks are on the way for passengers.

JetBlue has long pushed the envelope when it comes to keeping its passengers happy. This new partnership is just another amenity that the airline offers to its customers. Along with free wi-fi, the New York-based airline also boasts complimentary snacks and drinks, screens on every seatback, and some of the most generous seat widths and legroom in the industry.

Wi-fi For Everyone

When it comes to wi-fi access, JetBlue doesn’t discriminate. Every passenger on every flight has access to free high-speed wi-fi service, even in economy. The service, cleverly dubbed “Fly-Fi,” allows all JetBlue passengers to stay connected from gate to gate on any wi-fi enabled device. They are the only U.S. carrier that offers such extensive service.

Wi-fi Everywhere

While all JetBlue flights offer free wi-fi connectivity, the coverage area can vary by route. All domestic flights over the contiguous U.S. have expanded wi-fi service. Much of the Caribbean and Central American routes also have decent coverage. Additionally, JetBlue’s new European flights also provide passengers with expanded service. Travel Off Path’s Managing Editor, Tyler Fox, even gave a rundown of his experience with JetBlue’s wi-fi in a recent interview.

New Entertainment Partnership

While JetBlue has allowed passengers access to entertainment on their own devices via onboard wi-fi for a while now, they have just taken a new step to provide even more entertainment. This week it was announced the airline has formed a new partnership with NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock. Starting in the spring of 2023, Peacock will become the airline’s exclusive streaming partner.

Peacock was launched in the summer of 2020 and has an extensive library that will offer flyers endless entertainment. The service provides access to countless shows and series from NBC. In addition, films from Universal Pictures, Focus Features, DreamWorks Animation, and more will also be available. News, sports, movies, and Spanish-language content will all be made available to passengers.

In a press release, Jayne O’Brien, JetBlue’s Head of Marketing and Loyalty, says, “We’re excited to partner with Peacock, another fun, witty brand born in NYC to help raise the bar on what inflight entertainment can look like and bring in new ways of delighting our customers in the air and on the ground.”

The new partnership means JetBlue passengers will have free access to Peacock’s full offerings, including original series, movies, live sports, and news. The on-demand seatback screens will stream popular shows such as “Bel-Air,” “Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin,” and “Poker Face.”

As Many Screens As You Can Handle

Peacock’s streaming service will be available for all passengers on their seatback screens, but the connectivity doesn’t stop there. Customers can also access the service’s library from their own devices. In fact, passengers will be able to stream Peacock on any wi-fi connected devices they have with them – including smartphones, computers, and tablets.

JetBlue’s loyalty program, TrueBlue, is also benefiting from the new partnership with Peacock. TrueBlue members will be able to access special offers on Peacock service subscriptions and will earn TrueBlue points on any purchases made. Those with TrueBlue Mosaic status will reap even more rewards. Members with eligible status will receive a one-year Peacock Premium subscription.
