Finding the perfect fall destination for a getaway is a relatively easy task when you are looking at somewhere with as many beautiful options as Europe has.

While there are many places to choose from that shine in the fall months, the three cities of Amsterdam, Bruges, and Copenhagen really stand out. They are all stunningly pretty destinations, even more so in the fall with their canals and colorful leaves glowing in the autumn sun.

Amsterdam, Bruges, and Copenhagen are all known for being some of the most overcrowded cities in this region of Europe in the summer, so really fall is the best time to go for fewer crowds and lower prices, which is a major plus for these places that are notorious for being a bit pricey.

All three cities are trendy destinations and, for the most part, easily connected to each other and to the U.S., even more so with newly added flights.

Amsterdam, Bruges, and Copenhagen are classically dreamy and fairytale-like in the fall and offer a great vacation before the cold and rain sets in.

Here’s Why These 3 Trendy European Cities are Best Visited In The Fall:

Copenhagen

This popular city is a must-see; there is so much to love in charming Copenhagen that even in the massively crowded summer, it’s still a great choice.

However, by waiting until the fall season to visit, you can expect way fewer crowds and lower prices across the board.

The fall weather in Copenhagen brings mild days and a slight chance of rain. October falls between 45 and 54 degrees, and November drops a bit with a low of 38 and a high of 45 degrees.

Copenhagen’s must-dos include wandering the famously colorful Nyhavn area, exploring the historic Tivoli Gardens, visiting the top of Our Saviors Church, and many other things to enjoy in the cool weather.

Copenhagen’s endless outdoor cafes offer heaters, cozy blankets, and warm drinks, so even if the air turns brisk, you will be able to enjoy your time here.

Bruges

Belgium’s beloved city of Bruges is a very popular spot in the summer months, and it can be downright impossible to ride the canals and wander the alleys with the crowds of people that it gets.

This is precisely why fall is really the best time to visit, as the majority of the tourists have gone home, prices have fallen, and the leaves are changing into fiery orange and reds along the canals.

A visit to Bruges in the fall season might bring some rain, so prepare for that and you won’t be too disappointed. October temperatures fall between 49 to 58 degrees, and November cools down just a bit with an average of between 42 and 50 degrees.

The biggest draw in Bruges is enjoying a boat ride along the system of canals that crisscross the city, enjoying the chocolate shops, wandering the bridges and taking a million photos, and exploring the castles and medieval houses that are scattered around the area.

Amsterdam

It’s no secret that Amsterdam is a tourist haven, and although it might have gone through a recent rebranding, people still flock here to partake in all kinds of activities.

Thanks to its tall, colorful, and narrow buildings, endless canal-side cafes, water taxis, and millions of bikes, this is one picturesque city and therefore gets totally overcrowded in the summertime.

Amsterdam has some lovely fall weather, with October temperatures falling between 45 and 58 degrees, and November cooling off a bit with the averages ranging from 40 to 49 degrees. There is a decent chance of some rain though, so remember to bring an umbrella and plan for some indoor activities such as the many museums.

A visit to Amsterdam in the fall is magical for many reasons. The warm sunny days and cool cozy nights make for perfect sightseeing, and there are endless musical and cultural activities taking place all over.

Of course, the prices are a bit lower than in the peak summer months, although this is one city that is never really crowd-free, so make sure to plan for that as well.
