Flying around the world is an exciting hobby but let’s be honest, air travel can also be time-consuming and tedious.
Especially if you want to work, stream a movie, or simply check in with friends, but the Wi-Fi isn’t playing ball.
The good news is that airline Wi-Fi has increased considerably in recent years.
But some airlines still definitely have better Wi-Fi than others. So, which airline will offer you the best connection?
According to a new report from Electronics Hub, these are the 8 U.S. airlines with the best Wi-Fi:
8. Spirit Airlines
8th on this list is Spirit, technically meaning it offers some of the worst airline Wi-Fi in the U.S. And it comes at a cost too.
The price will depend on what flight you’re on and what kind of internet speed you need.
- A basic package that will allow you to check email or browse social media will cost $3.99.
- If you want to stream or play games, then you will need faster Wi-Fi with speeds of up to 10 Mbps, costing $6.99
The reason Spirit Airlines Wi-Fi is ranked so low is because it has a reputation for being patchy, and some passengers even report that it doesn’t work at all.

7. Breeze Airways
At number 7 is Breeze Airways, and like Spirit, your Wi-Fi here will also come at a cost for most passengers.
- If you are traveling with a Breeze premium fare bundle then your Wi-Fi will be free.
- For everyone else wi-fi costs $8 per passenger per journey, but this can be used on multiple devices.
Breeze also offers free messaging to all passengers, meaning that you can send messages through apps like WhatsApp or iMessage without costing you a penny.

6. American Airlines
American Airlines was one of the first U.S. airlines to offer Wi-Fi on its plans, and it now offers Wi-Fi across nearly all of its fleet.
If you are an AAdvantage customer and a frequent flyer, you can buy a monthly or annual American Airlines Wi-Fi subscription.
- The monthly subscription will run you 49.95 for one device or 59.95 for two devices.
- The annual will cost $599 for one device and $699 for two devices.
If you don’t want to subscribe, American Airlines also offers a pay-as-you-fly service.
The price varies from route to route, but it can be as little as $10 per person per flight.

5. United Airlines
United Airlines offers fast and secure Wi-Fi on its flights, which is why it is considered the 4th best in the U.S., but as with the other airlines on our list so far, this doesn’t come for free.
- You can pay a one-time fee of $10, which is reduced to $8 if you’re a MileagePlus member with the airline.
- If you’re a frequent flyer you can get a subscription for flights across North and Central America which is $49 per month or $539 a year.
- If you want a global subscription this is slightly more expensive at $69 per month of $689 a year.
It is possible to get free Wi-Fi on United Flights. If you are a T Mobile customer with a Magenta or Magenta MAX plan, you are eligible for free Wi-Fi for the full duration of your flight four times per year, as well as unlimited texting and one hour of free Wi-Fi on all other flights.

4. Southwest Airlines
When you fly with Southwest Airlines, you can get free Wi-Fi if you are an A-list Preferred Member or Business Select Customer. If not, then you will have to pay for access to the in-flight Wi-Fi system.
- From takeoff to landing on a single flight, this will cost $8 per device.
When you fly with Southwest, you can also access texting services through iMessage or WhatsApp for free.
Southwest has recently updated its in-flight Wi-Fi services to provide customers with faster data, more bandwidth, and lower latency.

3. Delta Air Lines
Delta Air Lines recently upgraded its Wi-Fi system.
This means that Delta now offers free Wi-Fi on most domestic flights and is continuing to roll out free Wi-Fi across its aircraft network.
- Certain T-Mobile and Sprint customers can also access Delta’s in-flight Wi-Fi connection for free.
- If you’re on a Delta flight without free Wi-Fi, then you will have to pay $7 for a one-hour pass from Intelsat or $5 per flight per device for a pass from Viasat.
- You could also consider buying a monthly Wi-Fi plan with Delta if you are a frequent flyer. This will cost $49.95 for domestic flights or $69.95 for a global plan.

2. JetBlue Airways
JetBlue came 2nd in this list because their Wi-Fi service is so widely available without a charge.
All JetBlue planes should be equipped with free high-speed Wi-Fi.
The reason JetBlue didn’t take the top spot when it is offering free Wi-Fi to all its customers?
Because often this free connection is patchy.
Weather and other factors can have an impact on the coverage area offered, and occasionally customers report limited or no service availability.

1. Alaska Airlines
Officially the airline with the best Wi-Fi connectivity in the U.S. is Alaska Airlines.
The reason Alaska tops the chart is because of the speed and reliability of the wi-fi connection they offer.
Unfortunately this speed and reliability comes at a cost and Wi-Fi isn’t universally free with Alaska Airlines.
- Streaming speed satelite Wi-Fi will cost $8 per person per flight.
This internet is fast enough to stream a movie and play games, as well as to browse online or check email.
This is available on most Alaska Airline routes, but on routes where high-speed wi-fi isn’t available you will pay the same price for a slower connection.
